A charming Gnathian pelike, with the obverse featuring a female head turned to the left, scrolling floral tendrils to either side, framing the central scene are a row of dots and ovolo above and a row of dots below. The reverse with a single central rosette to the neck, flanked with simple floral stems, all with added details in yellow.

With Mr Mele, Naples, 23 April 1880. Collection of Mr Paul Cogels, Belgium; sold 14-16 October 1912, Belgium, no. 794. Private collection, Belgium; thence by descent to the present owner. Accompanied by handwritten note which includes reference to original purchase: 'acheté payé 30 fr, Naples 23 Avril 1880, chez M Mele, strada de epiaia 29'. And also a receipt from 1912: 'Vente D'Antiquités de feu Mr Paul Cogels, 14-16 Octobre 1912, No. 794 du Catalogue'.

The lip with restoration (approx. 6 cm. long). Minor worn chips and loss to glaze on rim. Obverse with discoloration and fading to white decoration. Reverse with light/dark brown mottling to glaze, fading and discoloration to white decoration especially left stem, overall the body with a few very minor nicks to surface, the foot with dirt encrustion to reserved border, foot rim with minor worn chips and one small area of restoration, the underside with minor dirt encrustation to reserved area and also circular sticker.
