A finely potted and painted example of Apulian vase art. The decoration is near to workshop of the the Varrese Painter. Showing a rider and biga racing to the left, with chariot in added white. The horses are shown mid stride, with front legs raised galloping forward, the rider's hair flowing in the wind. Overall the piece displays the exuberant energy of a race, of movement. On the opposite side, a large palmettes and subsequently smaller fans to either side. The elongated strap handle terminates at the junction of the spout with three small female heads.
