Large Attic Black-Figure Skyphos attributed to the CHC Group

Circa: Circa 525 to 475 BC
Dimensions: 6.7" h x 8.7” diameter x 11.6" w including handles (17cm x 22cm x 29.5cm)
Medium: Terracotta

Both sides decorated with a scene of Amazons and a central turning quadriga, between a pair of inward-facing Scythians and a pair of outward-facing Sphinxes. Sitting on a flat disc foot with vertical lines above, upward turned handles, a band of double dots above the central scene and a concentric circle to the tondo, details in added red and white.

Important Swiss Collection since the 1970s. Parts of the collection were on loan to the Archaeological Collection of the University of Zurich.

Overall in good repaired condition. Put back from large fragments with some abrasions and surface encrustation as shown.
