Pair of Attic Red-Figured Glaux

A charming pair, with the usualy disparate glaux handles, one vertical strap and one horizontal. One of the pair is slightly larger than the other, with a seated, draped winged Nike playing the aulos, and on the other side an Eros with his wings splayed, running to the right but looking back, holding a filet between his oustretched hands. The other glaux with a draped female, standing in profile to the right before a stele, wearing a long chiton and a himation pulled over her head, while the other side shows a youth in profile looking to the left, his body and left arm wrapped in a himation, his right arm extended outward, holding an undulating staff.

Samuel Dieli (1920-1985), U.S. Cultural Attaché, and Joanna Dieli, Sturgis, Michigan, acquired in Sicily in 1964; thence by descent to a Private Collection, Chicago, Illinois USA.

On loan to the Kalamazoo Valley Museum, 1966 - 1981.
