This beautiful squat bodied vessel hails from the very earliest dynastic period in Egyptian art. Carved from an opaque creamy alabaster, it features a wide mouth, and a  round shoulder that elegantly tapers to a flat base.  The disc rim is separate from the bottom as shown and likely comes from another vessel altogether.

Dr. Rudolf Schmidt (1900-1970) collection, Solothurn, thence by descent to the present owner

The rim does not belong to the vessel.
Vessel: intact. A flaked chip approx. 1.5 cm. long max. just under the shoulder otherwise in good condition.
Rim: with hairline fracture. Various flaked chips to edge. Light dirt encrustation.
