This exceptionally well preserved fragment head would have come from a much larger complete limestone statue of an official.  Of the highest quality carving and detail we can see much of the original pigment remains and all of the fine facial features are preserved.  The elegant figure wears an echeloned striated wig with a false beard, and exhibits the quintessential almond-shaped eyes with extended cosmetic lines and conforming brows. The ear, the nose, and the lips are all finely delineated with delicate detail.  Together with it's dramatic custom made metal and perspex display case, this object would make an exceptional addition to even the most discerning collection of Egyptian art.

Private collection, UK, given as a gift prior to 1974; and thence by descent to the present owner

Sheared off around all edges affecting the proper right side of his face with the break line running through the outer corner of his right eye, down cheek and just past the outer corner of his lips. Beard missing as visible in illustration. Break line running up around proper left side of face following the jaw line, through his left earlobe and up through the wig. Remains of pigment are strong over the face and wig. Minor wear, nicks and pitting overall as consistant with age and material. The head is fixed within a wood, metal and perspex display case with an interior light fitting (no longer working). Within the case it is fixed onto a book plate two screws and a bracket on the reverse.
