The spoon, in the form of a duck or goose with its neck curved, eyes drilled and beak incised, the body is a shallow spoon with wings held tightly carved on either side, defined by a single incised line, and the tail similarly carved with a network of narrow  lines suggestive of feathers.

Collection of a European Lady, acquired in the 1980s

Overall in fine condition. Restoration on the upper wing and a small chip to the tip of the bottom most tail feather.

Small in size, this alabaster cosmetic spoon displays the Egyptian's extraordinary ability to work with stone, ornately fashioned in the shape of a duck. Popular in the New Kingdom, these spoons often represented the ideas of renewal, daily life, and the Nile's Flora and Fauna in their form and decoration.

For a very similar example see Princeton University Art Museum, y1949-18, for similar style, singularly carved wings, incised tail, and elegantly carved head.
