This is a wonderfully detailed example of the Egyptian God of War, with copious detail, exquisitely rendered features and myriad incisized adornments, Onuris is depicted here, recognizable by his short escheloned wig and false beard, bare- chested and wearing only a short kilt with striated vertical pleats. Details from the broadcollar remain and the uraeu s sits above the brow.

Intact and in fine condition with lovely patina and moderate surface wear. Missing left hand. Attached to integral base with one pinhole placed next to the forward advancing left foot.

Onuris was a fierce god, known for capturing enemies in battle or hunting dangerous animals. In this role, he personified good conquering and controlling forces of chaos and disruption. He was also associated Montu and Sopdu and had a strong rapport with Horus, whose claims he vociferously advocates in the tribunal judging the rights to the Egyptian throne. Later during the Greek period, he was identified with the Hellenistic war god, Ares.
