Origin: EgyptCirca: Late Period, 26th Dynasty, c. 664-525 BC Dimensions: 11.6" Height (29.4cms)Medium: Painted Limestone
This handsome late period limestone relief, still retains much of of it's original pigment, and serves as a reminder to the modern observer that the ancient Egyptian language was not simply functional, but beautiful as well. Striking in it's boldness and simplicity this fragment is sculpted in sunk relief, with a portion of a column of hieroglyphs, reading: "You have [na]med/[men]tioned(?)...,". Elements of red and black pigment are preserved adding a sense of presence and vitality to the composition, which is elegantly mounted against a black frame.
with Galerie Günter Puhze, Freiburg, 1978.
Intact as preserved. A chip to the bottom left corner. Minor abrasions, chips and losses throughout, especially to the edges. Losses to the pigment in the top hieroglyph and minor losses to the others. The pigment possibly enhanced.
