Greek Terracotta Female Protome

SKU: MS.0055

Origin: Greece, likely Rhodes
Circa: c. 5th century BC
Dimensions: 6.75" Height (17 cm.)
Medium: Terracotta

Of superb craftsmanship, this mould-made archaizing female protome still retains much of it's original allure. She wears a stephane, with a row of curls emerging from under the headdress. While her almond-shaped eyes, quiet down-turned gaze, and gentle smile subtly impart secrets from a bygone era. Traces of red pigment remain on an ochre ground.
