A spirited example of the popular Athenian export, the owl skyphos. This small cup depicts an owl on either side facing right, its head turned frontally, between two sprigs of laurel.

Jacques Errera collection, 19th Century, Belgium; thence by descent to the present owner. Printed paper label reading '74026'.

Repaired with infill and overpainting along the repair lines. Flaked chip to rim edge above one owl head. Some loss to the black glaze over the tip of a laurel spring on one side. Another flaked area on other side which has been coloured in black. Some nicks and wear to the surface overall. Flaking to the underside of base.
